Elementary Progress Report Overview

Elementary Progress Report

The elementary progress report is part of the Newton Elementary Schools’ process for reporting student progress and performance.  The process includes two conferences and two progress reports.  The progress report is built on the Newton Public Schools’ Learning Standards, which are aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Progress report items are categories which include many learning standards. For more information about each progress report item, please see The Elementary Progress Report Descriptors document.

The first written progress report describes your child’s:

  • progress toward learning standards and expectations in each subject area,
  • social and emotional growth at the mid-year point
  • effort in school work

This reporting system shows student performance as progress towards learning standards for the grade level, not in comparison to performance of other students
