Newton North & South students will work with Happy Caravan, a Greek NGO, to teach and support Syrian/Lebanese/Iraqi refugee children. Happy Caravan is an NGO started by a Syrian refugee whose main focus is ensuring that kids who are refugees have as normal a childhood as possible. Run out of a building at the very entrance of a refugee camp catering to families, Happy Caravan is part school, part clubhouse, run by volunteers from all over the world. The organization gives the kids a consistent stable place that’s always clean and full of warmth.
Students will be working in pairs if preferred, helping in running the day to day of an established school. Students will sing songs with little kids, help older kids with math and English, and teach yoga, knitting, sports, and a variety of other activities. They will also build a slide and monkey bars. During the weekends students will travel to see Delphi, the Parthenon and the Acropolis.
