History-focused program with hotel stays. Students explore cultural sites relevant to history & literature, the Holocaust, journalism & media, art & architecture $ music. The program was developed and overseen since 1990 by Newton South history and literature teachers and includes day trips to Lidice, Cesky Krumlov, Auschwitz, the Salt Mines, and Berlin sites. A typical day includes a morning class on history, architecture, contemporary politics, or literature; an afternoon divided between small group work and exploration of the cities; and evenings with opportunities for cultural activities. Students take classes and produce journals while on the trip. Participants earn 2.5 academic credits through the Newton Summer School.
