Fall Planning Updates - Action Required - July 13, 2020

July 13, 2020

Dear NPS Families,

I write to share updates on our fall planning, including a timeline for milestones we expect to reach over the next few weeks.

We continue to work with our School Committee and to receive guidance from the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on planning for the fall. Last Friday, DESE issued an updated timeline for districts to finalize school models for the fall. You can find the message here

A few updates for our work here in Newton:

  • Thank you to all who completed our survey. If you have not yet provided feedback, please do so today. You will find the survey link here:
  • If your student intends to ride the bus in the fall, please be sure to complete the registration now. Registration is completely online (no paper packets will be mailed) and we ask that you register by this Wednesday, July 15. No payment is due at this time. Register here.
  • We will be conducting Zoom chat sessions with families on Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24. The sessions will include initial feedback from the family survey, a review of the NPS planning process, and a timeline for decision-making.
  • The sessions will be conducted by grade level as noted below. Please RSVP to provide us with a general sense of number of attendees. Login information will be sent via email next week. Please note that sessions will be recorded if you cannot attend live.
    • High School (9-12) - Thursday, July 23 at 9:00 a.m. (RSVP here)
    • Middle School (6-8) - Thursday, July 23 at 12 p.m. (RSVP here)
    • Elementary (K-5) - Friday, July 24 at 9:00 a.m. (RSVP here)
  • We have developed a webpage to group all the school planning information together. You can find the website here.

We look forward to connecting with you next week during our community presentations.
