School Bus Update

Dear NPS Bus Families,
We write to share with you several challenges we are facing in our transportation department right now. Your patience is very much appreciated as we work to provide consistent and safe transportation for your student.
Due to a variety of industry issues, Newton and other communities are experiencing severe shortages of bus drivers. Our contractor, Eastern Bus, is actively working to bring in back-up drivers from other school districts as well as hire new, qualified drivers. We are working very closely with Eastern to ensure consistent service for Newton students. However, as they work to address this shortage, students riding our buses may experience delays or gaps in routes. Please know that if there is any significant delay or change in your student’s route, we will notify you as soon as possible via phone and email. Given the uncertainty of the current situation, the notice may be rather short.
The start of the school year is always a very busy time for our transportation department. Right now, we are experiencing an extremely heavy volume of emails, calls, and requests for changes. We will do our best to respond to all of the requests in the next few weeks, but please know that there may be a delay in our response. Specifically, we will resume review of all bus stop changes after September 20.
As a reminder, all students who wish to ride the school bus must obtain a bus pass. While the deadline to request a bus pass was August 10th, we are still accepting applications. If you have not yet applied for a pass and wish to do so, please submit the application as soon as possible.
