COVID-19 - Changes to School Committee Meetings
In an effort to balance our obligation to hold public meetings with the equally imperative duty to prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19, the School Committee is making two important changes to meetings to facilitate participation while adhering to state guidance on prohibiting gatherings of more than 25 people and practicing social distancing. Please see below for more details.
Beginning with the Monday, March 16th meeting, the School Committee will host virtual meetings. Those wishing to listen to the meeting may do so via the Zoom web-based conferencing. Meetings can also be watched or live streamed via NewTV. To call into the meeting via Zoom, please follow these instructions:

Participating in Public Comment April 27, 2020 and beyond
To participate in the public comment portion of a meeting, please submit your NAME and ADDRESS by email with the subject line: "Public Comment for [DATE]" to email@example.com PRIOR to 7:00 p.m., the official start time of the meeting. You will need to join the virtual meeting by computer or phone to participate.

During the Public Comment portion of the meeting, the School Committee Chairperson will call your name. At that time, unmute your microphone and turn on video (if participating via computer) to provide public comment. You are limited to 3 minutes.
About School Committee
Local School Committees derive their authority from the Constitution of Massachusetts, from statutes, and from the regulations of the State Board of Education. The School Committee operates in accordance with the MGL Ch. 71 and 41, which delegate its authority. The Education Reform Act of 1993, Ch. 71. S. 37:"The School Committee in each city and town and each regional school district shall have the power to select and to terminate the Superintendent; shall review and approve budgets for public education in the district, and shall establish educational goals and policies for the schools in the district, consistent with the requirements of law and state-wide goals and standards established by the Board of Education."
