M.E.T.C.O. Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity is a state-funded educational program designed to eliminate racial imbalance through the busing of children from Boston and Springfield to public systems in surrounding suburban metropolitan communities.
The METCO Program is open to all children of African American, Latino, Asian and Native American descent who reside in the City of Boston and volunteer to participate.
The Newton METCO Program is comprised of a diverse group of students from broad ethnic, cultural, economic and religious backgrounds possessing a range of educational strengths and needs. Newton's METCO program is the largest, maintaining a targeted enrollment of 431 students (3.4%). Students are enrolled in all 21 schools, in Kindergarten
through Grade 12.
Enrollment into the Program begins at the METCO, Inc. office at 40 Dimock Street in Roxbury.The Newton METCO Program does NOT accept registration application, referrals or transfers.
M7 PASSES FOR OUT-OF-DISTRICT STUDENTS
The Mayor has announced that all Boston students in grades 7-12 are eligible for an M7 pass. Below, families can find instructions for proving their eligibility and instructions on how to pick up their M7 Pass.

METCO'S NEW APPLICATION PROCESS
After a year-long study and community feedback from families and education officials, METCO is proud to announce the first major upgrade of the application system in decades.
This NEW APPLICATION PROCESS will take effect for all applicants beginning on October 2, 2019 (enrolling in the 2020-21 school year).
