The City of Newton’s 457(b) and OBRA deferred compensation retirement plans are transitioning to Nationwide as the new record keeper.
This change was made in collaboration with union leadership, retiree representatives, city staff, and financial experts to provide employees and retirees with improved retirement savings tools and services. Nationwide is expected to begin providing administration and record-keeping services on or around February 6, 2026

Important Dates and Blackout Period
During the transition, there will be a temporary blackout period when participants cannot make changes to their accounts.
- Blackout dates vary by current provider and occur between January 23 and February 6, 2026
- During this time, you will not be able to:
- Change investments
- Change contribution amounts
- Start withdrawals
- Your existing account balances will remain invested during the blackout period
Accessing Your Nationwide Account
Before the transition is complete, participants will receive a letter in the mail with their new Nationwide account number. This number can be used to set up an online account at:

Once your account is active, you can:
- Review and change investment options
- Use retirement planning and education tools
- Access your account online or through the Nationwide mobile app

- Optional professionally managed accounts (Nationwide ProAccount®)

- Access to a self-directed brokerage option through Charles Schwab
