School enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year opens on March 1, 2026.

Welcome to the Newton Public Schools! Here in Newton, it is our goal to build welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities for all students. We are glad you are joining us and hope that your child's experience will be positive and rewarding.

Enrolling in Newton Early Childhood Program

For preschoolers who are seeking an initial evaluation for special education eligibility,  please visiting the NECP eligibility page or call NECP at 617-559-6050 before enrolling online.

For preschoolers interested in applying to  be a community peer in the integrated preschool, visit the NECP application process page.

Enrolling in Kindergarten

Children who will be five years of age prior to September 1 of the school year during which they wish to enroll will be eligible to enter kindergarten for that school year. This means that your child must be five years old on or before August 31 of the school year in which they are seeking enrollment.

Enrolling in Grades 1-12

For first grade enrollment, children who will be six years of age prior to September 1 of the school year during which they wish to enroll will be eligible to enter first grade for that school year. This means that your child must be six years old on or before August 31 of the school year in which they are seeking enrollment.

School-age Requirements

  • 3 years of age prior to September 1st to enroll in NECP

  • 5 years of age prior to September 1st to enroll in Kindergarten

  • 6 years of age prior to September 1st to enroll in Grade 1
