Dr. Anna Nolin, Superintendent

A life-long educator, Dr. Nolin has worked in the education field since her undergraduate studies where — over the past 25 years — she has served as a middle level educator, drama director, grant writer, and technology-focused curriculum developer and consultant, and education leader in Metrowest region of Massachusetts. Throughout her long career, Dr. Nolin has held various district leadership roles, finally ascending to superintendent in 2018. She recently transitioned to the Newton Public Schools to become their first woman superintendent of schools. She also serves as the elected President of the New England Association of School Superintendents and Co-President of the Tri-County Superintendent’s Roundtable.

Dr. Nolin holds a bachelor of arts degree in English and Secondary Education from Middlebury College; a master’s degree from the Risk and Prevention Program in Human Development and Psychology at Harvard University; and a Doctorate of Education from Boston College, where her dissertation focused on researching effective leadership in school-based one-to-one student computing programs within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

In addition to educating and empowering young minds through her educational practice, Dr. Nolin also works to support teachers and administrators in strengthening their professional practices by serving as:

  • Instructor at Boston College, in the PSAP/LLPS Doctoral in Educational Leadership program, teaching about high-functioning educator teams in innovative environments.

  • Adjunct Professor at Framingham State University, facilitating the Designing Blended Learning Classes/Use of Moodle course and Teaching and Learning Innovation in Schools course (a course for new teachers).

  • Lead Instructor for the Friday Institute, Leadership in Blended Learning graduate course for district Google and Apple product training.

  • Instructor for the Educational Leadership Institute (ELI) at Endicott College, serving as a principal trainer in 21st Century Instructional Leadership.

Dr. Nolin has served as keynote speaker, panelist, and workshop/seminar facilitator at various educational sector convenings and events. During the pandemic, she served on a panel and podcast called, “What the heck just happened? Reflections on pandemic leadership and contending with racism.” She has presented goal-setting and COVID recovery workshops for aspiring superintendents, as well as a Teams and COVID Recovery workshop for Middlesex Partnerships for Youth. In addition, Dr. Nolin was recently chosen from superintendents across the nation to participate in the Leading Now effective communications cohort for leading in politically turbulent times.

In addition to being a life-long educator, Dr. Nolin is a continuous learner, routinely seeking to expand her knowledge about how to best support the needs of students, faculty, and families, to create the best educational environment and experiences.
