NPS School Psychology
Student mental health and learning capabilities are two of the primary concerns of parents and educators. The Newton Public Schools has made a commitment to provide all students the best and most appropriate services available. School psychology practicum and internship placements in Newton provide training opportunities at the pre-school through high school levels. Newton's practicum and internship program offers a wide range of training options with supervision by a large staff of licensed school psychologists.
All of Newton's school psychologists are licensed under Massachusetts Department of Education standards. Most are at a doctoral level and are licensed clinicians. The Massachusetts Board of Licensure for Psychologists has recognized the Newton Public Schools as a Health Service Setting, meaning that it will accept pre-doctoral internship training here in Newton towards licensure as a health service provider. This recognition is both an honor as well as a testament to the high level of quality in our psychology staff.
School psychologists in Newton are building based. This gives us the opportunity to get to know students and staff, resulting in more effective interventions. Becoming part of the culture in each building is an important part of the practicum/internship experience.
