NNHS Guadeloupe Exchange

Travel to historic and scenic Guadeloupe, an archipelago nestled in the Southern Caribbean Sea, boasting over 12 picturesque islands. Begin your journey with a week at Lycée Général et Technique de Baimbridge in Point-à-Pitre, delving into classes and staying with a local family. The following week coincides with the vibrant Carnaval festivities, offering an immersion into the rich Caribbean tradition. Your final week entails exploration alongside NNHS chaperones, unveiling the literature, history, culture, and natural wonders of Guadeloupe. This educational voyage aims to foster understanding of the intertwined histories of the US and Guadeloupe, rooted in transatlantic trade and enslavement of African peoples in the Americas. Alongside historical insights, students will engage with climate change initiatives, sustainability efforts on the scenic beaches, and the island's esteemed literary scene.

Students will spend the first two weeks staying with host families in Guadeloupe. Students will accompany their host to school each morning where they will spend their time in one of three ways. They will either be visiting classes at the Lycée Général et Technique de Baimbridge with their correspondent or studying/completing work for their classes back in Newton. In week 2, students will be on school vacation with their host family and they will be immersed in island life and culture. In week 3, we spend a week living together in a dormitory on campus and visiting other parts of the island, immersing ourselves in its infamous literature, history and natural resources.
