Facilities Department

The Newton Public Schools Facilities Department oversees many areas of responsibility across twenty-two school buildings and one administration building.

  • Coordination of services with City Departments
  • Asbestos Awareness and Management

The department supervises ninety school custodians that are responsible for day-to-day cleaning and support at each building.  An average of 5,000 work orders for repair and maintenance are processed each year. Additionally, Facilities supports City initiatives in the Capital Improvement Plan, new construction, and MSB programs. The department is responsible for a building rental program that enables the community to utilize buildings for a wide variety of events, from sports to cultural activities.  There are over 2,000 permits for building rental each year.  In addition, the Facilities Department is charged with oversight for safety and security programs, environmental, and sustainability programs.
