Introduction
-
2022-2023 No China Exchange Trip (to resume 2023-2024)
The Newton-Beijing Jingshan Exchange Program is the oldest student/teacher exchange program in the nation (both US and China). Two teachers and up to eight sophomores and juniors from Beijing Jingshan School come to Newton for four months (September to January); and two Newton teachers and up to eight seniors from both Newton North and South High Schools go to Beijing (January to May). Both teachers and students stay in host families, and have in-country excursions in addition to attending school classes.
What a Typical Day Looks Like
-
After host families drive the students to Jingshan School, they will start their day by shadowing their host siblings to some of their classes. Between classes, students will do morning exercises. There will be recess between each class, when students will be able to play Ping Pong and basketball with Jingshan students. Around noon time, students will meet for lunch and have a long break. In the afternoon, students will enjoy cultural and language classes such as calligraphy, martial arts, Taichi, music and dance, Chinese folktale, brush painting, etc. Sometimes, students will be able to do excursions around the city. Students will go home with host siblings after the school is over, do further activities with host siblings or with the cohort group.
