Elizabeth Fitzmaurice, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services

  • Elizabeth Fitzmaurice assumed her role as Assistant Superintendent for Student Services in August 2019. As a life-long special educator, she previously served as a teacher and leader in private, public and collaborative education. Dr. Fitzmaurice taught in both intensive and alternative special education programs and supported inclusive supports for students at the middle school level. Her leadership passion includes working with all stakeholders to support inclusive opportunities and she is deeply committed to universal design for learning and tiered supports for all learners so as to capture each student’s area of giftedness.

    Dr. Fitzmaurice earned her Bachelors in Intensive Special Education from Fitchburg State College, Masters in Education Leadership from Worcester State College, and Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Boston College. At Boston College, Dr. Fitzmaurice’s dissertation work is focused on Leadership for Inclusive Practices with a concentration on leaders’ decisions about student discipline that support students’ opportunity to learn through the conceptual framework of Multi-Tiered System of Supports. Dr. Fitzmaurice is humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve the Newton community.
