Before joining the Newton Public Schools, Karen served as the Deputy Superintendent of Student Services in the Public Schools of Brookline, where she worked for over a decade.
Prior to her educational career, Karen worked in the non-profit human services sector. She was in the forefront of introducing and utilizing wraparound technologies and system of care principles in the areas of public mental health and child welfare in Massachusetts in her role as Senior Executive of Wraparound Services at Brockton Area Multi-Services Inc in Brockton MA. Karen is a trained Clinical Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist. Karen also has her Teachers Diploma in Speech and Drama from Trinity College of London and taught English as a Second Language to young adults and adult learners. She received her Clinical Psychology degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa and her Doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.
