Frequently Asked Questions
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is rotation?
Rotation, also sometimes referred to as TAP, is the Thursday afternoon program in the Newton Public Schools. Every eight weeks each grade level receives an afternoon of instruction in physical education, music, library and/or art. This allows special subject teachers time to engage in projects that they may not be able to do in the regular week. This also creates time for grade level teachers to come together for professional development.
What is the music program like at Franklin School?
All children in all grades receive weekly music instruction with a certified music teacher. Additionally, third graders are taught to play recorder. In fourth grade students are offered instrumental music lessons during the school day. In fourth and fifth grade children receive one 30 minute music lesson per week and participate in a grade-level chorus. Fifth graders are also provided the opportunity to participate in band or string ensemble.
