    Dear Incoming 6th Grade Families,

I hope that you and your families are on the way to enjoying a restful summer.

Now that we are about midway through the school year, I thought I would write with a few reminders and updates.

I have heard from a few of our incoming students that they no longer have access to our summer reading flyer that was shared by their 5th grade teachers on Google Classroom. When your child transitions to Day in the fall, they will have access to our shared learning platform called Schoology. In the interim, I wanted to make sure that everyone has the information they need to engage in summer reading.

Below is a link to the flyer created by our current 6th grade teachers with the assigned summer reading titles. Although each of the novels share a similar theme, students are asked to select at least one that is of interest to them.

I have also linked below an incredibly comprehensive suggested reading list put together collaboratively by all of our middle school librarians.

Middle School Summer Reading List 2021

Our goal with summer reading is to engage your child in reading of their interest and choice to support their development of a life-long love of reading.

Please join fellow Day families for cookies and lemonade under the tent immediately behind Day on Tuesday, August 24th. There will also be an opportunity for a Q&A with Principal Mann, to purchase spiritwear, and to learn about PTO opportunities,

    (Rain date: Wednesday, August 25th)

We'll be there from 6-7:30pm. Students are welcome, in attendance with parents or guardians. Great opportunity to practice those walk, bike and roll routes to school!

I know that it has been months since the orientation sessions, and now that you are approaching your child’s first day of middle school, I have prepared a new FAQ document for incoming parents. We hope to incorporate this document into a longer handbook for Day this coming year.

Important Upcoming Dates at F.A. Day

I hope you find the above resources helpful.  I will begin to send out weekly newsletters to all in the Day Community by the week of August 23rd.  In the interim, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or my assistant, Donna Fisher with any questions or if we can support you or your child in your transition to Day.

Wishing you and your family a joyous remainder to your summer.  I am looking forward to welcoming you and your child to the Day community in September.

    All the best,

    Jackie Mann
