Staff Training

The Newton Partnership offers staff training opportunities for Newton schools and partners in the areas of:

  • Safe School Environments and Violence Prevention
  • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Prevention
  • Student Behavioral, Social, and Emotional Supports
  • Mental Health Services 
  • Early Childhood Social and Emotional Supports

Examples of training include:

  • A workshop on bullying and cyberbullying prevention for campus aides (presenter: Dr. Kim Storey, co-author Eyes on Bullying)
  • Collaborative Problem Solving for school staff (presenter: Dr. Ross Greene)
  • A training on Challenging Kids for camp staff (presenter: Dot Lucci)
  • A workshop for family childcare providers to help children develop social skills (presenters: Mary Gartland and Laura Perkins, TNP Early Childhood Specialists)
  • Kid Connections and "Social Thinking":  working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders

(presenters:  NPS Social Thinking educators Genna Lyons and Susan Kass)

  • "Steps to Respect" 2-day anti-bullying training for 3,4 and 5 grade teachers. Provided by Seattle-based Committee for Children.
  • "Second Step" 2-day anti-bullying training for middle school staff with a trainer from Committee for Children.
  • Early Childhood Conference, "Creating Safe Environments:  Helping Children Thrive" in March, 2010.
  • Suicide Assessment and Prevention (Presenters:  Larry Berkowitz and Jim McCauley of Riverside Community Care)
