Instructional Technology Plan 2008-2011
The Department of Information
Technology led the development of a new Three-Year
Technology Plan (2008-2011). In
the fall of 2006, the Technology Advisory Committee (TAC)
was formed in an effort to join the interests and values
of the community with the expertise of school department
professionals. (http://www.newton.k12.ma.us/technology/TAC/)
Six subcommittees (Computing Models, Emerging Technologies,
Funding and Partnerships, Public Relations, Technology
Integration, and Universal Design for Learning) met throughout
the 2006-2007 school year to investigate findings and
make recommendations to the School Department for the
planning and implementation of technology in the schools.
(Final report is posted at http://www.newton.k12.ma.us/technology/TAC/index.html)
Under the direction of the TAC and Department of Information
Technology, Sun Associates conducted an Instructional
Technology Audit of the schools.

Using the findings and recommendations from the Tech
Audit and TAC Final Report, a representative group of
teachers and administrators wrote the first draft of the
Three-Year Technology Plan required by the Department
of Education. The plan includes goals, action plans, and
holistic performance indicators related to the key areas
outlined in the Massachusetts STaR chart, http://www.doe.mass.edu/boe/sac/edtech/star.html.
The Tech Plan is a "living document" that will be updated yearly. Note that action plans for Year 2 (2009-2010) have been updated along with the budget and organizational chart. These updated documents are included in Appendix E of the plan.
